Istanbul Impressions

Statement

Having grown up in a media culture with the first compact camera at the age of 6 years, taking pictures with the camera apparatus feels like an innate bodily function – intuitively triggered as reflex to visual or emotional stimuli. Nonetheless the are more often than not lacking the desired effect of keeping or merely representing the sensation of the real experience.

„Istanbul Impressions“ are physical impressions of random ground surfaces in Istanbul. They were taken during a stay in 2015 around places which I liked and where I had strong positive emotions. No photo – nore words – recall the emotions of these moments – nor evoke new feelings like these „Impressions“.

Made manually by gravure via acrylic plates.
