from the series „Everything Counts“
Statement
Feeling disconnected with the omnipotent realism of (digital) photographs.
Can arbitrarity create a representation that is feeling more alive, more true?
Realism is just one convention.
Everything is in anything, if you want it to be.
There can be worlds even in the most unconspicous detail.
Everything counts.
By documenting some completely arbitrary conditions thoroughly and exact, a parallel universe of representation and experience gets possible which provides an experience and reality of its own.
Project agenda/manifesto:
1- predefine arbitrary parameters by intuition and association
2- use dice to make decisions and define quantities
3- be somewhere
4- let loose
5- immerse, observe, count
6- use physical processes to produce a haptic manifestation – or serial manifestations of the one exact arbitrary representation
7- be simple
Examples for predefined parameters:
– „Ask some passer-by for their favourite number“
– „Cross the location diagonally and count the steps it takes“
– „Throw one dice once. Jump as many times as the dice shows. Count the seconds you can hold your breath after jumping. Devide the seconds by 5.“
